Public Meeting for Greenville County Historic Resources Survey starts at 1pm on Thursday, January 17, 2013, Conf. Room C at the Hughes Main Library
Greenville County Rec. District and the County of Greenville are kicking off the 2013 Historic Resources Survey. Brockington and Associates will be conducting an 18-month long inventory and comprehensive survey (up to 1100 properties) of our County’s important cultural and historical sites. This is an important step forward to help develop a plan to save our priceless rich cultural and heritage resources. The resource survey will bring our County up to par with the state and federal guidelines for the completion of a Historic Resource Survey of sites. The Historic Resource Survey benefit local tourism development, property owners seeking a nomination for their properties to be listed on the National Historic Register, organizations applying for historic preservation funding, and educational opportunities for local museums and universities. Most importantly, it will help to foster local opportunities for citizens, businesses, civic organizations, and public entities to promote local asset-based economic investment in our communities.
If you have a friend who is interested in our history or know of a potential historical site in Greenville County, please bring your list to the meeting.
For questions please contact Ty Houck at historicsites@gcrd.org or Dan Powell at 467-7287
