Hearing Helen now on view

Experience the whimsical and mysterious work of Helen DuPré Moseley.   The paintings of Upstate artist Helen DuPré Moseley (1887 – 1984) draw viewers into an imaginative world of characters and creatures that seem to have their origins in ancient Egyptian and Renaissance portraiture and modern Surrealism. Wife, mother, and public servant, Moseley began painting at age 60 having never had a formal lesson. Her engaging untitled images invite viewers into the world of her imagination.

Organized in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Emrys Foundation, the exhibition Hearing Helen continues on view through April 14, 2013.

*Art & Chautauqua: American Legends

Art and Chautauqua:  American Legends, Sunday January 13

Two shows: 2 pm and 3:30 pm at the Greenville County Museum of Art, 420 College Street, Greenville, SC 29601

The magic of legend, the beauty of art and the ever-shifting reality of history weave together in this illustrated discussion led by Art & History Chairs at the SC Governor’s School of the Arts Joe Thompson and Rusty Godfrey.

The program will challenge us to take a second look at art & history by exploring public art at Falls Park and American legends Benedict Arnold, Davy Crockett and Malcolm X.   Great stories and great art both deserve a second look. NOTE: this event is so popular, we’ve scheduled two showtimes 2pm and 3:30pm.
