GT – Liberia, South Carolina: An African American Appalachian Community

“Liberia, South Carolina: An African American Appalachian Community” presented by Dr. John Coggeshall, Professor of Anthropology, Clemson University. This talk presents the oral history of an African-American community in upper Pickens and Greenville counties. Descendants of local freed slaves, the Liberia Community has struggled for over a century to persevere in White-dominated Upstate South Carolina. The community’s struggles also reflect larger theoretical and historical issues. Audience questions are welcomed. Friday, March 31, 2017 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. UT(104) Auditorium – Barton Campus – Greenville Technical College. Please feel free to contact 864-250-8729 for more information.
