Hagood Mill – Two Sessicons

Session 1 – Saturday April 8, 2017

Session 2 – Saturday April 29, 2017

10:30am – 12:00pm

Instructor – Scott Withrow

Please join us for an educational and informative glimpse into the natural history and folklore which abounds around the Hagood Mill Historic Site and its surrounding areas.  This inspirational hike will be led by Scott Withrow, noted historian and naturalist.

Join Scott  as he guides us through the nearly two miles of nature and hiking trails located within the boundaries of the Hagood Mill site.  On this journey we will explore and discover the fascinating natural history, folklore, and medicinal history associated with the wide variety of native wildflowers, trees, and shrubs found within the preserve of Hagood Mill.

Scott is trained in cultural and natural history and is especially interested in how each affects one another.   He has long photographed native plants, and in doing so, became interested in both their natural history and folklore, as well as the wisdom acquired by early humans, native peoples and settlers, that led to the medicinal use of a wide variety of native flora found in the Appalachian and Foothill regions of South Carolina.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.  Cameras are optional, but there may be good opportunities for wildflower photography.

A maximum of 15 participants will be allowed per session, so register early.  Students under 12 yrs. old must be accompanied by an adult.  Tuition is $3.00 per student and can be paid on or before the start date of the class..  Advanced registration is required (at least one week before the start date of the class) unless approved by Hagood Mill staff and Instructor. Students can register by phone at (864)898-2936 or send an email correspondence to BillyC@co.pickens.sc.us.  We will call or email your registration confirmation as quickly as possible.   Interested parties may also register in person at Hagood Mill Wednesday through Saturday from10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Payment methods include cash and check only at this time.  Please specify which session you would like to attend at the time of registration.
