PCM – Art Classes

Spring and Summer art classes and workshops at the Pickens County Museum of Art and History are here!  Join our teacher Renee Gillespie as she introduces a new round of art instruction for everyone to enjoy!
Adult’s Painting Class, Tuesday 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Six-Week Sessions will be held on May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; June 13, 2017 in the Liz Smith-Cox Educational Studio at the Pickens County Museum. Beginners or experienced painters will enjoy painting with watercolors or acrylics in an encouraging studio environment. Each Student will choose the subject of their painting and receive individual instruction at each class. Instruction will be based on the painter’s skill level and beginning painters may begin with basic painting exercises. Students will provide their own supplies. Supply list, if needed, will be given at first class. Tuition for this class is only $88 ($78 for museum members). Pre-registration is required. Tuition must be paid prior to the first class. No refunds on tuition after start of class.
Youth summer art class, Tuesday 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., ages 11-14 years old. Class starts June 13, 27; July 11, 18, 25; August 1, 2017. Experience six weeks of summer art fun! Students will be painting, drawing, sculpting, and working with clay to create their unique art masterpieces. All supplies are included in tuition ($78.00 for members, $88.00 for non members). Students should wear art class shoes and clothing.
Plein-Air Painting class, Thursday 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.May 4, 11, 25; June 15, 29; July 6, 2017.  Enjoy Six Plein Air painting classes held at the Hagood Mill. Gather your painting supplies and easel and enjoy an afternoon of painting in the open air. Instruction, critique and encouragement will help both beginning and seasoned painters. Never painted outside before? Bring your existing supplies to the first class and receive a supply list and help getting started. Class will be held indoors at Hagood Mill in case of bad weather.  Tuition is $78.00 for members, $88.00 for non members.
Workshops
Painting the Museum Gardens: Introduction to Plein-air Painting,  Saturday May 6, 2017 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  First time and experienced painters are welcome to this introductory workshop to painting outdoors.  Participants are welcome to use watercolors, acrylics, oils, pastels, ink, colored pencil, or any medium of choice. Gather your supplies, art board, easel, chair or stool, sun hat, lunch and enjoy painting outside the museum. Instruction, encouragement and critique will be happening throughout the day of painting. First time painters without any supplies please contact Renee Gillespie through the Museum at 864-898-5963 before the workshop for more information. Workshop fee is $80.00.

Playing with Polymer Clay, Saturday, May 27, 2017 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Students will create beautiful beads and pendants using polymer clay through easy to learn beginning techniques. Finished pieces will be baked and can be assembled into jewelry or can later be incorporated into other creative projects. All supplies are included in tuition. Please bring a bag lunch.  Workshop fee is $80.00.

Create a Visual Travel Journal, Saturday, July 29, 2017 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Create an accordion pleated journal with pockets filled with photos, collages, maps, ticket stubs, travel mementos, stories, from places near or far, real or imaginary. Use paper, paint, stamps, thread, magazines and travel mementos to create a tactile and fun interactive piece of art. Participants may bring their own travel mementos to design their journal around but this is not required. All supplies are included in the tuition. Students are to bring a bag lunch to the workshop.  Workshop fee is $80.00.  Collage 101, Saturday, August 26, 2017 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  A fun introduction to the art of collage. Learn several beginning collage techniques that will equip you to create endless creative works of art. No prior experience is necessary. All supplies are included in the tuition. Bring an apron and wear art class clothes. Students are to bring a bag lunch to the workshop.  Workshop fee is $80.00.

To enroll in classes you may stop by the museum in person, or call the museum at (864) 898-5963.  Tuition may be paid by cash, check, or charge.  Make Checks payable to the Pickens County Museum, or call the museum to use your Visa, Mastercard, or Discover Card.  Classes will be held at the Pickens County Museum, 307 Johnson Street, in Pickens.  Each class is offered as a six week session only, and no classes can be selected by individual weeks.  Students will be notified if a class has been cancelled or filled.  If a class is cancelled, all tuition will be reimbursed to the registered student.  Workshops are a one day class offered at the museum.  No tuition will be reimbursed after the starting date of these classes.
